Where exactly is the Fan Blower Resistor?

I'm having some of the A/C fan blower switch problems. I've combed over the past threads and other references around here (including Paul's "quick fix", and the melted wires info), etc. (So please don't post those and expect to solve my problem.)

Here's my history:

-- Fan Blower speed 2 disappeared.
-- A/C light (and A/C itself) began intermittently flickering on and off.
-- Fan Blower speeds 1 and 3 disappeared.
-- I inspected the back of the switch and found no evidence of overtemp, loose wires, or other discrepancies.
-- I took the blower switch apart, cleaned & freshened up all the contacts, and reassembled. Results: Flickering completely went away! However, speeds 1-3 still didn't work.
-- Obtained a brand new blower switch. Installed & tested. Results: No change; speeds 1-3 still didn't work. Put my old switch back in.

With the flickering solved, the lack of 1-3 is currently my only issue. Based on what I've learned in the other threads, and the wiring diagram included in some of them, it appears that there is a separate fan blower resistor that is required for speeds 1-3 (while speed 4 bypasses it). As such, this indicates I have a problem with this resistor.

Has anyone actually replaced this component? Where exactly is it located, and how difficult is it to access? I haven't gone digging behind the dash center yet -- just trying to gather info in the meantime. If it IS easily accessible, I'll order up a new one and -- with the info I'm hoping to acquire here -- knock it all out in one fell swoop rather than waste time with multiple dasboard incursions.

Thanks in advance!
