AC Compressor Won't Shut Off

Having a problem with my AC seems to be working fine but I can't shut it OFF. Press the off button and the light goes off and RPM changes but the compressor is still engaged and blowing cold air.
Could it be a relay or something else I can check.
Any ideas ??
