Hi everyone!
i just want to show you what ive been up to these past couple of hours.
This is one of my first metal-based project, but was not an actual school project; i had finished all my projects and had enough time to do my own fun stuff ^_^

So i grabbed a scrap piece of steel from my machine shop and without dimensioning or measurements, just straight from my head i went for it. I was too excited to care and had it planned since the beggining of my semester.

And so, sadly my machine shop did not have the thread & Tapping size tools for the shifter for my tiburon, (M10x1.25). Did some research when i got home yesterday and found out Princess Auto had a whole set, and the only set that had the tap i needed. Walked in today, only to find out that they were HALF THE PRICE i was expecting, and was happy to go home with only spending $20.
Upon running home in excitement, i quickly tapped it with my new tools and ran straight into my car to test it. Here it is!

Next week im going to drill/bore a larger diameter to decrease its weight (its nearly 3lbs) and so that it fits snug and shorter on the shifter! but man, i have to say, it felt pretty nice!
Originally, i was planning to anodize it candy red, but then thought it would be a bit extreme for now as i dont have metal test pieces to try and dye my one and only shifter knob i made. Second idea was to carbon fibre it ( i have some for about a year sitting now), and read that the bond between metal and the polymers don't mix too well and can potentially crack the composite, making it useless.
Well, i spent about 2 hours sanding 200grit>600grit>2000wetsand>and a good 4 coats of polish all around to protect it for now.

I am so excited, im supposed to be studying for my exams, instead im going nuts over my creativity (Y U DO DIS SKYLINER) at the wrong time. Maybe tommorow i will pour clear high gloss resin over it but im still debating because i have to make small adjustments.
Stay tuned, next week should be interesting!
