I have a 2006 Tiburon GT - automatic.
Sometime in 2008 I ran over a pipe. Ever since then my check engine light comes on every once in a while. I met my boyfriend after that, he works on cars and knows them well, except for Hyundais. He's not a fan of foreign-made cars. Anyway, he used one of those little devices that tells you what the reason for the check engine light is. It said it was the O2 sensor. Well, my sister's boyfriend also works on cars for a living and he has a more sophisticated check engine light error checker that tells you exactly what is wrong.
So, my boyfriend replaced the O2 sensor that the error gave. Well, check engine light still comes on. This was replaced about 6 months ago.
Then, this morning, my car started in a very horrible way. It was sputtering a lot and running bad. So I turned it off and restarted. Well, then the engine kept turning but would not start. So my boyfriend had to leave work to come help me out. Well, we started it again, after many tries, it finally started and he said to keep giving it gas and let it warm up. So, I did and it finally sounded okay and finally made it in to work. He also said it was smelling funny, the fumes it was giving off.
Since he is not familiar with Hyundais he thinks the O2 sensor was causing it to not warm up and has something to do with the heater. He thinks it may also be the catalytic converter.
Does anyone have any clue how I can fix it or what is wrong with it? I want the check engine light to not come on anymore. Is it the O2 sensor or the catalytic converter or something else?
Please help!!
