Left wheel knocking and shaking

All of a sudden yesterday, I heard a knocking noise on my front wheel. I first thought it was bumping like a flat tire but the tires are fine. When I drove it more it makes a loud knock like metal pieces hitting each other. I can feel it also. It can diminish if I drive really smoothly but it is really bad if I go over a bump. Last year I put in new struts and rocker arms because of creaking when I went over bumps but this is much worse. I am afraid to drive it. I called a repair shop but no one is open until after Xmas. That will be the day after tomorrow. I'm worried that it is going to be a big job. What could it be? What could I expect? How can I make sure a mechanic is fixing the right thing? I moved to a small mountain town last summer and don't know any mechanics and don't think they have any hyundais in town....
