So I'm new to site. But here's my intel. Just bought 03 tibby. As everyone seems to be stating, my defroster vents are cracked badly. Thought it was previous owner. But seems maybe sun wrought and shifting. Anyway I ordered replacements unaware of the screws holding in place. Definetly not taking the dash apart. Way to much work and risk breaking other parts n clips. So I decided to go with this route, keeping in mind I think this is easier n probably better. ( allowing the vents to absorb some impact by not being screwed in)
Got the replacements in. Costs bout 30 with shipping.
I cut out the screw inputs on both vents.. 2 on each. Used a steak knife serrated teeth. Be carefull. Take your time. Don't cut yourself. Lol I did.
Removed brittle vents with flat head screwdriver. Basically breaking them out try n snap out pieces at screw heads. As we want replacements to sit flat.
Vacuum out any debris in vent.
Replace with new vents with cut out screw holes. Should still clip in and be very secure if cut flat. Still has two clips on vent itself that goin in simply by pushing down.
And there you have it. Took me an hour total being careful. 30$ no 350 for dealership risking breakage and what not. All u need is knife with small serrated teeth to basically file away plastic. Good luck
