Ok, a few months ago i put together this front brake kit for my car, because i wasn't all the impressed with what the aftermarket had to offer and was/is over priced IMO. The project originally started out with the intention of running the XG350 2 piston calipers, but after reading a thread on gencoupe.com about base model gen coupe owners upgrading to V8 gen sedan front brakes that are are 13" rotors and 4 piston cast iron calipers that are very similar to the factory Brembos at a much lower cost, i did alittle research, then came across a set of the V8 calipers on ebay, low miles used and got them for 175 shipped for the set. I then designed and had made an aluminum bracket to adapt the gen sedan 4 piston caliper to the stock knuckle using the gen coupe 13.4 rotor for factory Brembo calipers.
Now i know the first thing is these are not the easiest calipers to find used at a great price, ill admit that i got dam lucky, the seller had them listed for 350 BIN and i made him an offer of 150 plus 25 for shipping. These calipers can be bought brand new from several online OEM Parts houses for roughly 230-250 each, and they com with factory ceramic pads.
The rotors i got off ebay, they are centric brand, and just there basic ctek standard replacement rotor, i got them for 45 shipped each. Factory rotors from Hyundai are somewhere in the ~200 range each. You can get Stoptech cross drilled rotors for 90 each from tire rack, which is the best price ive found so far, haven't looked at R1 concepts yet to see what they offer.
Then the important part is the adapter bracket/hardware needed to make it all work. This part i designed and had cut out of 1/2" T6061 Aluminum by a local Water Jet Place. I also had to have longer brake hoses, as the stock ones, or even stock replacement stainless steel lines wont work. I used universal Russel brake lines that have a 10mm banjo on one end and a -3an on the other, then used a -3an adapter to convert to the stock 10mm 1.0 hardline. These lines aernt DOT certified, but work fine and are as good or better than any of the other aftermarket lines available at a cheaper cost.
Im thinking about going several different ways:
Option 1: Adapter kit only, would include the aluminum brackets, all needed hardware, 3mm wheel spacers that go behind the rotors and the extended length brake lines. Cost ~250
With is kit, you would be on your own to get the calipers, rotors, pads, and also wheel spacers depending on what wheels your running, stock 17's clear just fine with 10mm spacers.
Option 2: Adapter Kit without the extended brake lines, if you already have upgraded lines on your car and want to try and make them work. Cost ~185
Option 3: This would be a complete kit, you would get the adapter bracket kit, the extended brake lines, standard replacement rotors, brand new calipers with stock pads and all needed hardware. This will be a completely bolt on deal. Cost ~825
Option 4: This would be an adapter kit designed to use the 13.4" rotor and the 2003-2005 XG350 dual piston calipers. I would need to find a good used xg350 caliper and pads to use for mock up and the get the bracket designed, made and test fitted. If somebody has a set of XG350 calipers/pads they wanted to send me, they would get the adapter kit at my cost, and ill pay the shipping to return their calipers, and give them a free set of slightly used rotors, as im going to be swapping the standard rotors on my car for the stoptech cross drilled ones here soon. Cost for this kit would be ~185
