snapped a wheel stud

managed to snap one of the 5 when i also managed to get 2 flats in the middle of a snow storm... bought 2 new tires so now just need to replace the lug. Is it as simple as it feels to just hammer it from the front and slide new one in fro back? or do i need to remove the assembly completely?
