Just purchased a 2004 V6 this weekend. Trying to get to pass CT Emissions - recently failed. Fitted with INJEN short-tube intake, K&N type cone filter and a BORLA cat-back exhaust.
Cleared P171 & P174 (Lean Bank 1/Bank 2) codes. Checked for vacuum leaks, checked MAF wiring/connector, and cleaned MAF sensor with CRC Electronic Cleaner. ECU won't run/set EVAP, CATALYST and OXYGEN SENSOR tests. Just completed factory drive cycle last night - followed it exactly. Was able to get EVAP to set after drive cycle, but CAT and O2S still won't run diagnostics. Got the P171 and P174 DTC codes again - lit up right after drive cycle completed. Looks like it happens in steady-state highway speed conditions. Think too much air is perhaps going by MAF sensor?? It was recommended that I remove the INJEN air intake and re-install a factory intake to eliminate possibility of too much air passing by MAF sensor under certain driving conditions. Planning to just leave the factory airbox on, just to pass emissions test, and will re-install INJEN once I pass.
1. Assume others have had the same problems? Any ideas, besides installing a factory airbox, replacing the MAF, etc? Don't want to throw $$ at this unnecessarily.
2. See that P171 code could be related to heated O2 sensor. Any chance O2 sensor might need replacing??
3. Will the CAT and O2S diagnostics not run or go to "ready state", due to the P171 & P174 codes???
4. Does anyone have a factory air box and air tube they would be willing to give away or sell cheaply?
Any other suggestions or things I might check?? Any assistance you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Would like to get this through emissions as soon as possible, so it can be registered. Thanks everyone. (KenBradley-at-yahoo-dot-com)
