I've given up on taking my 08 GS Tib to the dealership. The prices are simply too outrageous.
I have a good friend who is a mechanic, who does all my maintenance. Oil changes, brake pads, fluids, etc. I save about 75% doing it this way. My mechanic gets some pocket cash and I get a good deal. It works out for both of us.
As I am only at 48,000 KMS, I haven't had to do anything major.
My mechanic is gone for some months so his advice isn't available.
I have recently started to hear a creaking sound from the from left side of the car as I drive over the speed bumps in front of my house. It only makes the noise on the first bump, and is for the most part quiet for the rest of my short commute, and my ride home. There doesn't seem to be as much bounce on that side as well, and at times the steering seems slightly off.
Another problem I have is when my air conditioning or heat is on, there is an intermittent quiet squealing of one of the belts, along with an obvious lack of power in driving the car in general. I have heard the lack of power is okay, but not too sure about the belt.
The question I have is, are these things problems that sound to be covered by warranty? After ditching the dealership, do you guys think I can squeak myself through this without paying anything? The last thing I will ever do is give them any more money. There have been multiple occasions where I talk to the guy on the phone, come down, they take my keys, and the bill jumps by about three to four hundred dollars.
If I do have to pay for anything, I will take it to another shop.
So, do you fellas think either of those problems are covered? Even if I haven't been taking the car there?
-Drew. Thanks in advance for any help.
p.s. are there any reputable sites out there for oem parts? I plan on taking my SRi out and putting the stock airbox back in. It was lost while moving sadly.
