I bought my tib around 2 months ago now from a private seller. About a week ago when driving I started to hear a rubbing sound which I assumed to be my brake pads rubbing against each other, so today I took it in to get looked at. Turns out the inside of the rotors are completely rusted, the pads have about 50% contact with the rotors because the rest is rusted. I have to get new brakes and it's going to cost approximately $600 :( they look fine from the outside through the wheel but in the inside is another story.
The person I bought the car off got it safetied, and it definitely should NOT have passed so unfortunately it is most likely a BS safety.
Be careful buying from private sellers.. I fell in love with my car when I saw it and just had to buy it, but realistically I would have been better off buying from a used dealer so that I wouldn't have any surprises and I would have some kind of warranty. Lesson learned. Btw, this is not the only surprise I've had with this car, but like I said I love it all the same.
The new brakes I'm getting come with a 2 year warranty so that's good at least. I had this car inspected before I bought it, but it wasn't certified or insured at the time so I couldn't drive it to a shop so I paid a mechanic to look at it on site. Apparently he is an idiot because he didn't notice, and I am too new with cars to have seen this problem myself.
